History

The 2011 release of the Burnished American Silver Eagle holds significance as it marked the series’ return after a two-year hiatus. The challenging economic landscape during the Great Recession led to unprecedented highs in precious metal prices, causing a shortage of silver blanks for the US Mint. This scarcity temporarily halted the production of collectible coins within the American Eagle collection. Consequently, there was no production of the proof Silver Eagle in 2009 and no Burnished Silver Eagle in 2009 or 2010. Despite the pause, the 2011 Burnished American Silver Eagle saw a decrease in mintage by 130,000 from its 2008 release.
