All Mexican Gold Coins

Discover the Mexican Gold Libertad – the official gold bullion coin of Mexico, gaining popularity among investors and collectors in North America. BGASC offers a diverse selection of these coins.

Origin of the Mexican Gold Libertad

The Mexican Gold Libertad is the official bullion coin of the Mexican government, minted in both silver and gold. Its history traces back to the gold Centenario coin unveiled by the Mexican Mint in 1921. Originally released in 1981, the modern Gold Libertad carries forward the design motif of the original coin.

Introducing the Mexican Gold Libertad

The first Mexican Gold Libertad was minted in 1981 in various weights. After a hiatus, production resumed in 1991 with additional fractional-weight coins. From 1995 to 2000, there was another pause, but since 2002, consistent production has been maintained. The Mexican Mint now produces Gold Libertads in five weights, meeting the demand and gaining popularity.

Proof and Reverse Proof Versions

In addition to the bullion coin, the Mexican Mint produces a proof version since 1989, with a reverse proof version introduced in 2018. The latter, available in 1 oz and 1/2 oz gold weights, features a unique visual contrast with frosted background elements and mirrored design elements.

Other Mexican Gold Coins

Beyond the Gold Libertads, the Mexican Mint has a rich history of issuing gold coins. Before modern bullion coins, Gold Pesos were used as circulation currency. The most famous among them is the 50 Peso Mexican Gold Coin, known as the Gold Centenario coin, issued in 1921.

Design Evolution of the Mexican Gold Libertad

The original Gold Libertad design from 1981 replicated the Centenario coin’s design. In 2000, the design was updated, featuring Winged Victory in a side-profile relief. The reverse side now showcases the modern coat of arms surrounded by historic versions since Mexico’s independence.
