The reverse design features an American bald eagle. Miley Busieks family of bald eagles design was used from 1986 until mid-2021. Starting in mid-2021, Jennie Norris detailed portrait of a bald eagles head became the new design.

History

Its worth noting some variations in the 1/2 oz Proof Gold Eagles over time. Coins from 1987 to 1991 feature Roman numerals for their date marks, while those from 1992 onward use Arabic numerals. Additionally, coins from 1987 to 1993 have P mint marks for the Philadelphia Mint, and coins from 1994 onward carry W mint marks from the West Point Mint.
