History

President Theodore Roosevelt’s dissatisfaction with US coinage aesthetics in 1904 led to Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ commission for a design overhaul. This historic decision birthed the iconic Saint-Gaudens Lady Liberty design seen on today’s American Gold Eagle coins. In 2010, gold’s trajectory climbed steadily for eleven consecutive years. Starting at $1,121.50 per ounce, hitting a low of $1,050.00, and soaring to a peak of $1,421.00 before ending the year at $1,405.50 per ounce.
