This design was created for the Royal Canadian Mint in 2003 by Susanna Blunt as the fourth-generation portrait of the Queen. This right-profile relief depicts Her Majesty without a crown or tiara, a traditional approach typically used for the portraits of British kings, not queens.
Reverse
A sugar maple leaf is found in the reverse design of the 2023 1 oz Silver Maple Leaf coin. This image was designed in 1979 by Walter Ott and has featured on all versions of the silver, platinum, and palladium coins in the series.
History
The 2023 release of the Canadian Silver Maple Leaf is the last to feature Queen Elizabeth IIs effigy. Early batches issued by the mint will feature the Queen for a final time while a new portrait for King Charles III is developed for Canadian coinage.
