Obverse imagery on the 2023 Canadian Gold Maple Leaf features the right-profile effigy of Queen Elizabeth II. Created in 2003 by Susanna Blunt, this design is the fourth of Her Majestys reign, just the second from a Canadian artist, and the final portrait of the Queen to grace the coins in this series after her death in September 2022.
Reverse
Reverse design elements on the 2023 1/20 oz Gold Maple Leaf focus on the sugar maple leaf, the official emblem of Canada. In addition to gracing the national flag and countless government seals, the sugar maple leaf is also a popular logo for various private entities based in Canada. This image was designed in 1979 by Walter Ott.
History
For a limited time, the Royal Canadian Mint will offer 2023 Canadian Gold Maple Leafs for a final time with the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Once the original batch sells out, RCM will introduce 2023 Canadian Gold Maple Leafs with a new portrait of King Charles III.
