Obverse

In the obverse design of the 2023 Somalia Gold Elephant, the coat of arms of Somalia is featured and includes two heraldic leopards supporting a crowned shield. The shield has a field of horizontal lines and a single star at the center. The shield has spears and fern leaves beneath that are draped in a banner.

Reverse

For the reverse side of 2023 1/4 oz Gold Elephant Coins, the Bavarian State Mint depicts the head of an African bush elephant. The elephant is shown reaching into a tree with its trunk to strip leaves from the branch for a meal.

History

Somalia Gold Elephant Coins were originally available in only 1 oz gold. The first introduction of fractional-ounce coins included 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold. In 2017, additions to the series included 1/25 oz, 1/50 oz, and 1 Gram gold.
