Obverse

Queen Elizabeth II appears in the final portrait of her reign on the obverse of 2023 Australian Lunar Rabbit Silver Coins. The Queen is shown here in right-profile relief in a 2015 portrait completed by Jody Clark. This effigy captures the Queen at the age of 89 wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown. Inscriptions on this field of the coin read ELIZABETH II, AUSTRALIA, 1/2 OZ 9999 AG, and 50 CENTS.

Reverse

In the reverse design of the 2023 Lunar Rabbit 1/2 oz Silver Coin, the mint features a new design from Ing Ing Jong. This image shows two rabbits under a branch. While one of the rabbits is seated, the other is standing on its hind legs as it raises its head to sniff at the branch above. Inscriptions include the Chinese symbol for a rabbit, the P mint mark of Perth Mint, RABBIT, and 2023.

History

Ing Ing Jong has created both designs used in the 2023 Year of the Rabbit issue. Her depiction of a singular rabbit on the gold coins will be used on the platinum bullion coin as well, with her depiction of two rabbits used on all versions of the silver coin.
