Obverse

The Grand Pipe Organ from the Musikverein features in the obverse design of 2023 Austrian Platinum Philharmonic Coins. This image shows the main pipe organ installed in the Golden Concert Hall, a fixture that was installed in the first decade of the 20^th century.

Reverse

Musical instruments adorn the reverse of the 2023 1 oz Platinum Philharmonic Coin. This design features a cello at the center that is flanked on either side by two violins. The background field includes a harp, a bassoon, and a horn.

History

Austrian Platinum Philharmonics feature the same obverse and reverse designs as the gold and silver coins in this series. Austrian Mint Chief Engraver Thomas Pesendorfer created both design elements in 1989 for the launch of the series. The platinum version of the Austrian Philharmonic debuted in 2016 with 1 oz platinum and expanded in 2017 to feature a 1/25 oz platinum coin.
