Obverse

In the obverse design of 2023 Australian Silver Kookaburra Coins, the mint features Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II. This is her final appearance on the coins as the Queens passing in September 2022 means that now-King Charles III, formerly the Prince of Wales, will eventually feature on Australian coinage.

Reverse

For the reverse field of the 2023 1 oz Silver Kookaburra Coin, Perth offers a new glimpse of the kookaburra. The field not only features two members of the native kingfisher species, but also shows them within the branches of the native waratah plant. This side of the coin has a micro-laser engraved security element that is visible only with the aid of magnification.

History

Perth Mint always offers its 1 oz Kookaburra with a mintage cap. Recent years have seen a higher mintage cap at 500,000 coins, with the 1 oz coin earning a sellout each year from 2008 to 2016. This occurred with mintage caps of 300,000 coins from 2008 to 2010 and the higher 500,000-coin cap from 2011-2016.
