History
Born in 1919 in Georgia, Jackie Roosevelt Robinson made history in 1947 by becoming Major League Baseballs first African American player. In high school, Robinson showed signs of immense athletic talent. During this time he was placed in an All-Star tournament, where he played alongside future legend Ted Williams. During World War II, Robinson served in the army before signing a contract to play in the Negro Leagues with the Kansas City Monarchs. Robinson would eventually make his Major League debut on April 15, 1947, playing at Ebbets Fields for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
