Queen Elizabeth II is on the obverse side of 2023 Proof St. Helena Silver Lucky Angels. This design shows Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II in right-profile relief wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown. This design was created in 2015 by Jody Clark for use as the fifth-generation effigy of the Queen on British coinage and has been featured widely throughout the Commonwealth.
Reverse
A Lucky Angel is shown in the reverse field of 2023 1 oz Proof Silver Lucky Angels. This design shows a large, winged angel in front-facing relief with a staff in one hand and a wreath in the other hand. Her figure is framed by sun rays from behind and she is set atop the globe.
History
The Angel coin was designed in 1792 by Augustine Dupre at the request of King Louis XVI. Dupre managed to escape the guillotine during the French Revolution by bribing his guards with the very coins he designed. The belief in the coins lucky nature became so strong that even Napoleon Bonaparte is said to have carried the coin with him.
