History

The Anonymous Mask is said to date to the Gunpowder Rebellion in England in 1605. A group of English Catholics attempted to assassinate King James I by blowing up parliament, but the powder failed to ignite and James I survived. Known as the Guy Fawkes mask, the visual persists to this day in popular culture.
