Obverse
Lady Liberty is depicted in the obverse design of 2023 American Gold Eagle Coins. Created in 1907 by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, this image of Liberty was ground-breaking in its day for depicting Liberty as she walks toward the viewer with a torch in one hand and an olive branch in the other.
Reverse
An American bald eagle is on the reverse side of the 2023 1/10 oz Gold Eagle Coin. This vision of the national emblem shows the head of the bald eagle in left-profile relief with intricate details for its plumage.
History
The new reverse design was introduced in mid-2021 and was created in 2020 by Jennie Norris. It is the first design change for the American Gold Eagle in its history and replaced Miley Busieks original 1986 reverse design.
