For the obverse face of 2022 Proof British Memorial Half Sovereign Coins, the Royal Mint debuts its new King Charles III portrait on the Sovereigns. Designed in late 2022 by Martin Jennings, this effigy captures the king in left-profile relief with no crown on his head.

Reverse

In the reverse design of the 2022 Proof Memorial Half Sovereign Gold Coin, the mint features the Royal Arms from Jody Clark. The same man who designed the final portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, Clarks offers an intricate portrayal of the Royal Arms. This design shows the shield with the coat of arms of the United Kingdom, the Lion of England, and the Unicorn of Scotland.

History

The Proof British Gold Memorial Sovereign Series honors the transition from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to His Majesty King Charles III. This release foregoes the St. George design for this Royal Arms design celebrating the 70-year reign of Her Majesty.
