Product Description

The sabre-tooth tiger is a beast unlike anything modern humans could imagine. Though the fossil record suggests the sabre-tooth was similar to the species of tigers still roaming the Earth today, there are features of this beast that set it apart distinctively from the tigers we now know. Today, BGASC has the 2023 2 oz Canadian Smilodon Sabre-Tooth Tiger Silver Coin available to you for purchase online.

Highlights:

  • Arrives with a plastic flip, a roll of 14 coins, or a box of 280 coins!
  • 1st issue in the Ice Age Series!
  • Comes with micro-engraved security elements!
  • Contains 2 Troy oz of .9999 pure silver.
  • The face value is $10 (CAD).
  • On the obverse is Queen Elizabeth II.
  • The reverse features the sabre-tooth tiger.
  • Artwork from Julius Csotonyi.

BGASC offers you the 2023 2 oz Canadian Smilodon Sabre-Tooth Tiger Silver Coin for purchase individually or in bulk. Single coins come with a plastic flip, while multiples of 14 coins arrive in a roll and multiples of 280 coins are housed in a box. The box holds a total of 20 rolls of coins.

Obverse

On the obverse side of the 2023 Canadian Smilodon Sabre-Tooth Tiger Silver Coin is one of the final appearances of Queen Elizabeth II on Canadian coinage. This image shows the Queen in right-profile relief in a 2003 design by Susanna Blunt. The fourth-generation effigy of the Queen, this portrait is the last of Her Late Majesty to grace Canadian coins.

Reverse

The reverse face of 2023 2 oz Smilodon Sabre-Tooth Tiger Silver Coins comes with a depiction of the Ice Age beast. The sabre-tooth is shown in front-facing relief as it lunges at its target. Whether that target is its prey or a prehistoric human threatening it, we’ll never know. One thing is certain: this beast is fearsome.

History

Sabre-tooth tigers had a similar body structure to modern tigers, according to the fossil record, but did have distinguishing features to separate the two. The most notable are the massive upper canine teeth, but the sabre-tooth also had a much shorter tail. Each of these coins comes with radial lines on both sides, with an additional micro-engraved maple leaf privy on the reverse.
