Reverse
A new depiction of Britannia is present on the reverse side of the 2023 1 oz Proof Silver Commemorative Britannia Coins. In frontal relief, she is portrayed holding a Union Jack shield and a trident, while guiding a chariot driven by seahorses.
History
The new depiction of King Charles III on the obverse is not just his first appearance in the series, but it is also the first appearance of a monarch other than Queen Elizabeth II on the coins in the Britannia Series. Her Late Majesty reigned from the point the series debuted in 1987 until her recent passing in September 2022.
