Obverse

On her head is a laurel wreath of victory, while hanging from her side in its sheath is the Imperial Sword Reichsschwert. This design is set against a beaded backdrop and also includes identifying hallmarks along the rim.

Reverse

For the reverse side of 2023 Germania Silver Rounds the seal of Germania Mint is shown. This official emblem depicts a double-headed eagle with ties to the ancient deity Janus. The eagle is surrounded by olive branches and inscriptions reading 5 Mark, Germania.

History

In the 1500s, Germania was instilled as the Mother of the Nation by Emperor Maximilian I. A symbol of strength and valor, Germania is usually depicted in art wearing armor while wielding the Imperial Sword. In some depictions, she also wears or carries the Imperial Crown of the Holy Roman Empire.
