Obverse

The obverse design element of 2019 Proof Gold Libertad Coins portrays Winged Victory. This image of Victory captures the Angel of Independence as she appears atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column. The statue was created in 1910 to commemorate the centennial of the nation’s war of independence against Spain. Upon completion of the Victory Column in Mexico City in 1921, the Statue of Victory was placed atop it to mark the centennial of independence.

Reverse

On the reverse design of 2019 1/2 oz Proof Gold Libertad Coins, the Mexican coat of arms is featured. The design depicts a golden eagle perched on a prickly pear cactus as it battles with a serpent. Below the design, there is an oak-and-laurel wreath.

History

The 1/2 oz Proof Gold Libertad was the first offered in the history of this series. It was initially struck in 1989. No other weight was offered until 2004 when the 1/4 oz Proof Gold Libertad debuted. In 2005, all five weights currently available were issued together for the first time.
