Obverse

The 2016-W Burnished American Gold Eagle Coins obverse design features Augustus Saint-Gaudens iconic image of Lady Liberty. This portrayal of Liberty includes her holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left, walking towards the viewer with rays of sunshine in the background, the U.S. Capitol Building at her feet, and a ring of stars around the field.

Reverse

On the reverse design of the 2016-W 1 oz Burnished Gold Eagles, Miley Busieks depiction of a family of bald eagles is showcased. In this design, the male eagle carries a large branch in its talons as it flies over the nest, while the female eagle watches over her hatchlings in the nest.

History

The highest mintages available in the Burnished American Gold Eagle Series all came between 2006 and 2008, the years before the two-year suspension in 2009-2010.
