These $2 Secretariat 50th Anniversary Legal Tender Notes were produced by The Merrick Mint through a special proprietary process. While the front side of the note has been altered, they are still recognized as legal tender within the United States. Packaging for these notes consists of a blue folio with a Certificate of Authenticity from the mint.

Obverse

For the obverse of $2 Secretariat Triple Crown Legal Tender Notes, there are two images of Secretariat. In the center, we see a black-and-white picture as the horse wins at Belmont. There is also a colorized image of Secretariat and his jockey, Ron Turcotte.

Reverse

For the reverse of Secretariat Triple Crown 50th Anniversary Legal Tender Notes a rendering of the Declaration of Independence painting is shown. This iconic image is inspired by John Trumbulls 1819 oil painting depicting the Founding Fathers presenting a draft of the Declaration to John Hancock.

History

1973 was a big year for Secretariat. Not only did the legendary Thoroughbred win the Belmont Stakes by a record-setting margin, but he also achieved the rare Triple Crown. In the month prior, Secretariat emerged victorious at both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes. Then on June 9^th, he beat his competitors at Belmont Stakes by a whopping 31 lengths to claim the historic Triple Crown.
