History

In 2005, Congress assigned the United States Mint the responsibility of designing a coin series honoring the Presidents of the United States. Along with this, they were directed to create a collection of gold coins that would celebrate their spouses. The First Spouse Gold Coin Program was launched in 2007, intending to honor each of the nation’s First Spouses in chronological order from the inception of the country until the early 1990s.
