Obverse
The obverse of the 2023 Australian Mother & Baby Kangaroo Silver Coin features Queen Elizabeth II, depicted in Jody Clark’s 2015 effigy design. As a memorial to Her Late Majesty’s 70-year reign as Queen of England, the design includes the dates 1952-2022. This particular silver coin is a tribute to the Queen and the iconic kangaroo species.
Reverse
In left-profile relief, a mother kangaroo and her joey are depicted on the reverse of the 2023 10 oz Mother & Baby Kangaroo Silver Coins. Surrounding them is a background field filled with natural foliage, with radial lines filling the horizon, adding depth and texture to the design.
History
Kangaroo joeys usually leave the pouch for the first time at around six to eight months of age. At this point, they are still very dependent on their mother and will continue to nurse for several more months. As the Joey gets older, it will start to spend more and more time outside of the pouch, exploring and playing. Eventually, it will become fully independent and leave its mother’s care.
