2006 saw the 20th annual Proof American Silver Eagle, and with it, near-record high mintages. 2006 saw a massive increase from 816,663 proofs to 1,092,477 proofs struck. To this day, that still stands as only the second time more than 1 million proofs were struck in a year, joining the inaugural 1986 version. 2006-W 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagles are now available to purchase at BGASC.

These 2006-W 1 oz Proof American Silver Eagles will arrive as a UCAM-designated coin. UCAM proofs have strong, frosted design elements with deeply mirrored clear background fields. Obverse

Walking Liberty, designed by Adolph A. Weinman, is displayed on the obverse of 2006-W Proof American Silver Eagles. This timeless design shows Liberty clutching oaken branches and adorning the American flag. Shes making her way to the sunset on the left of the coin. Inscriptions on this field include LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 2006.

Reverse

2006-W 1 oz Proof Silver Eagles bear the heraldic eagle on the reverse. This modernization features the bald eagle front and center with the national shield on its chest and its wings spread. 13 five-point stars are located above the eagle’s head. Inscriptions read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, W, 1 OZ, FINE SILVER, ONE DOLLAR, and E PLURIBUS UNUM.

History

Using the Sheldon Scale, the NGC grades coins from 1-70. Proof coins are always prefaced with PF when being graded by the National Guaranty Corporation. The NGC, founded in 1987, has 30 full-time certifiers who receive, grade, and encapsulate the coins.
