Obverse

Adolph A. Weinmans Walking Liberty design once again graces the obverse of 2020-S 1 oz Proof Silver Eagles. This design, which has been used by the United States Mint since 1916, features Liberty walking toward the sun. Shes donning the American flag over her shoulder with oaken branches in her left arm. Inscriptions read LIBERTY, IN GOD WE TRUST, and 2020.

Reverse

John Mercantis heraldic eagle will bear the reverse one final time on 2020-S Proof American Silver Eagles. This bald eagle is front and center of the reverse with the national shield on its chest. 13 five-point stars are above the eagle’s head. Inscriptions on this field read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, E PLURIBUS UNUM, S, 1 OZ, FINE SILVER, and ONE DOLLAR.

History

The heraldic eagle design has been used by the United States Mint since 1794. John Mercanti modernized the image to be featured on the 1986 debut of this iconic series. This included the 13 five-point stars above the head of the bald eagle.
