Reverse

Emily Damstras flying eagle design is the new reverse image of 2022-W Proof American Silver Eagles. This image shows a bald eagle swooping in holding an oak branch in its talons. Inscriptions on the reverse read UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, 1 OZ, FINE SILVER, E PLURIBUS UNUM, and W.

History

Although it debuted in 2021, 2022 marks the first year that Emily Damstras flying eagle design is the lone image on the reverse of Proof American Silver Eagles. This design was hand-picked by the US Mint from a list of around 35 others. This design replaced the heraldic eagle designed by John Mercanti, former Chief Engraver of the United States Mint.
