Obverse

The obverse design of the 1902-O Morgan Dollar features Liberty in left-profile relief, adorned with a laurel wreath, coronet crown, and a Phrygian capa classic 19th-century design.

Reverse

On the reverse, you’ll find the heraldic eagle of the United States. This version of the seal does not include the US national shield. Instead, it presents the eagle in front-facing relief, wings spread wide, holding arrows of war in one talon and an olive branch of peace in the other.

History

New Orleans Mint Morgans carry the “O” mintmark: To identify the origin of the coins minted in New Orleans, the Morgan Silver Dollars produced there feature an “O” mintmark, which is found on the reverse side, below the wreath. The presence of the “O” mintmark makes New Orleans Mint Morgans highly sought after by collectors.
