Obverse

History

These Morgan Silver Dollars were struck at the New Orleans branch of the U.S. Mint. This mint opened its doors on March 8^th, 1838. Following a brief hiatus during and after the Civil War, the mint re-opened in 1879 to accommodate the production of the nations new Morgan Silver Dollar. The mint closed for good in 1909 and today is part of the Louisiana State Museum.
