Obverse

For the obverse of Morgan Silver Dollar Coins Lady Liberty is presented in left-profile relief. While this design has neo-classical elements, it was also based on a real-life American woman named Anna Williams from Philadelphia. The obverse bears the coins year of mintage as well.

Reverse

For the reverse of 1881-O Morgan Silver Dollars Americas national bird is featured. The bald eagle represents the nations values and ideals and has been featured in the countrys heraldry since the Great Seal was adopted in 1782.

History

These Morgan Silver Dollars were struck at the New Orleans branch of the U.S. Mint. This mint opened its doors on March 8th, 1838. Following a brief hiatus during and after the Civil War, the mint re-opened in 1879 to accommodate the production of the nations new Morgan Silver Dollar. The mint closed for good in 1909 and today is part of the Louisiana State Museum.
