History
While serving as Assistant Engraver at the U.S. Mint, George T. Morgan designed a new Silver Dollar at the behest of director Henry Linderman. Once the dies were set, the coin went into production on March 11, 1878. The Morgan was then struck each year until 1904. After World War I, the coin was struck one last time in 1921 before being replaced by the new Peace Silver Dollar.
