History

License plates in Maryland have seen small various changes since 1986. The design remained largely unchanged from 1986 to 2009. In 2010, a special War of 1812 200th anniversary design featuring a U.S. flag and Fort McHenry was introduced. The current plate design was implemented in 2016 and has remained consistent ever since.
