Washington began issuing license plates to its residents in 1915. Since 1950, only two major designs have been featured. 1950-1986 saw a white plate with green lettering. Since 1986, Washington has used Mount Rainier on all of their standardized plates. In 1998 they made a slight change, removing a black border around the plates’ edge.
