The obverse field of the 1 oz Colorized Stacking Across America New York License Plate Bar beautifully showcases the iconic New York license plate. Its golden yellow backdrop, adorned with a small blue bar on top, features the state’s name at the top and its slogan at the bottom. Inscriptions read NEW YORK, STACKING, 2023, and EMPIRE STATE.

History

New York holds the distinction of being the first state to require license plates, starting in 1901. Initially, residents had to craft their own plates, often featuring just initials or numbers. It wasn’t until 1910 that the state began officially issuing them. The brand-new design of their latest plate unveiled in 2020, was chosen through an online vote.
