The 2023 1/4 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coins come in protective plastic flips, ensuring they stay in their brilliant uncirculated (BU) condition. Among the smaller coins, these have one of the lower mintages each year. Interestingly, the 1/4 oz Silver Libertad was most popular in its second year in 1992. The previous year’s release, 2022, had only 4,150 coins made.

Obverse

The front of the 2023 Mexican Silver Libertad Coins displays Mexico’s coat of arms. It’s a modern symbol with a strong golden eagle battling a serpent. This eagle is perched on a cactus and wears an oak-and-laurel wreath below.

Reverse

On the flip side of the 2023 1/4 oz Silver Libertad Coins, you’ll find a striking image of Winged Victory. This symbolizes Mexico’s fight for freedom and is based on the goddess Victoria. She’s shown with wings, a laurel wreath, and broken chains.

History

In 1991, the Mexican Mint introduced four smaller coins in the Silver Libertad Series. Alongside the 1/4 oz Libertad, there were weights of 1/20 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/2 oz. Then, in 1996, they added 2 oz and 5 oz silver coins to the series.
