Obverse

The front of the 2023 Mexican Silver Libertad Coin proudly shows Mexico’s coat of arms. This modern image features a strong golden eagle on a cactus, fighting a snake that it’s holding tightly in its beak and talons. There’s a circle of oak and laurel leaves around the eagle.

Reverse

The back of the 2023 1/2 oz Silver Libertad features the stunning Winged Victory. This design honors Mexico’s freedom and independence, based on the goddess Victoria (Nike). She stands tall on top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column, showing victory and liberty.

History

Since 1991, the Mexican Mint has been making Mexican Silver Libertads. In 1991, they started making smaller coins, like the 1/2 oz, along with 1/4 oz, 1/10 oz, and 1/20 oz coins. Just like the smaller coins, the 1/2 oz Silver Libertad had its biggest production year in 1992, which is still the record today.
