Product Description
Introducing the 2023 2 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coins, now available for purchase at BGASC! These classic Mexican Silver Libertads have been cherished in the world of precious metals since 1982. The brightest chapter in their history unfolded during the second decade, especially in the 1990s. At that time, the Mexican Mint expanded the series by introducing 2 oz and 5 oz silver coins, along with four smaller fractional-ounce coins.
Highlights:
- Each coin is kept safe in protective plastic flips!
- This release marks the 28th edition in the renowned 2 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Series!
- Mintage total of 30,000!
- Contains 2 Troy ounces of .999 pure silver in Brilliant Uncirculated condition.
- The front side proudly showcases Mexico’s coat of arms.
- The reverse features a captivating design of Winged Victory.
Your 2023 2 oz Mexican Silver Libertad Coins come protected in plastic flips to preserve their brilliant condition. Notably, the highest mintage within the 2 oz Libertad range, as of 2023, can be traced back to the inaugural release in 1996.
Obverse
The striking obverse design of the 2023 2 oz Silver Libertad showcases Mexico’s national coat of arms. In addition to the modern emblem of Mexico, this design includes ten historical versions of the emblem. The seal, positioned at 12 o’clock, spans back to 1541 and features a majestic golden eagle engaged in a battle with a serpent, perched atop a prickly pear cactus.
Reverse
Turning to the reverse side, you’ll find the captivating image of Winged Victory. This design draws inspiration from the statue adorning the Mexican Independence Victory Column in Mexico City. It depicts the figure of Victory with wings, holding a laurel wreath and broken chains.
History
The story of the Silver Libertad Series began in 1982. Initially, these coins were available only as 1 oz silver pieces, a trend that continued until 1990. In response to growing demand for Mexican silver, the mint introduced four fractional-ounce coins in 1991. Continuing their stride, the Mexican Mint introduced 2 oz and 5 oz silver coins in 1996. These larger-sized coins have been issued annually ever since. While they hold strong popularity, especially compared to the fractional-ounce coins, they remain just below the ever-popular 1 oz coin.
