Obverse
The front of the 2024 British Silver Royal Arms Coins shows a dignified bust of His Majesty King Charles III. This image replaced the previous ones of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2023, marking a change in how the royal family is depicted. The talented Martin Jennings created this distinguished bust of His Majesty.
Reverse
Flip the coin to see the modern version of the Royal Arms on the back. The shield is divided into quarters, each representing a part of the United Kingdom. The shield is topped with a special crown and is supported by the Lion of England and the Unicorn of Scotland, both regal symbols.
History
Dating back to the late 12th century, King Richard I, also known as Richard the Lionheart, introduced the first Royal Arms of England. During his reign, he used banners with three lions in a special pose. This iconic symbol became the very first Royal Arms of England around 1198.
