Obverse

On the front side of the 2023 Proof Mexican Gold Libertad, there’s a cool picture of Mexico’s coat of arms. It’s a seal with a golden eagle that’s showing off by fighting a snake with its sharp beak and strong claws. The eagle is standing on a cactus and there’s a wreath of oak and laurel below.

Reverse

The other side of the 2023 1/10 oz Proof Gold Libertad has the image of Winged Victory. This design comes from the Mexican Independence Victory Column and its statue of the Angel of Independence. The picture shows a lady holding a laurel wreath and some broken chains, which stand for freedom.

History

The picture of Winged Victory on the back of Mexican Libertad coins is based on the Angel of Independence, which is on top of the Mexican Independence Victory Column. This place is super important for big celebrations and parades in Mexico’s history. It’s a really big deal during times like Independence Day (September 16) and Revolution Day (November 20), when people celebrate their country.
