Obverse
On the obverse side of American Silver Eagle Coins, you’ll find the historic image of Walking Liberty by Adolph A. Weinman. Her left-profile relief shows her full-length figure as she walks toward the sun on the horizon, clutching branches of oak and laurel in her left hand.
Reverse
For the reverse field of 1 oz Silver Eagles, you’ll notice one of two designs. Coins dated 1986 to mid-2021 feature John Mercanti’s original depiction of the heraldic eagle. Coins dated mid-2021 to the present showcase the new soaring eagle, a left-profile relief of the bird in flight as it clutches an oak branch.
History
The American Silver Eagle Series offers only 1 oz silver options for both investors and collectors. When it was first introduced in 1986, the series offered BU (Brilliant Uncirculated) and Proof options. In 2006, a Burnished version of the coin was introduced. Since 1986, the BU Silver Eagle is the only version issued each year without a missing date mark.
