Obverse
The obverse of the 2020 Australian Silver Sumatran Tiger Coin features Queen Elizabeth II in right-profile relief. This portrait, created by Jody Clark in 2015, shows the Queen at the age of 89 wearing the George IV State Diadem Crown. It was the final effigy of Queen Elizabeth II used on Australian coins.
Reverse
On the reverse side, the Sumatran tiger is depicted in its natural habitat. Known for their solitary and territorial nature, Sumatran tigers are excellent swimmers, capable of covering long distances in water. This design captures a Sumatran Tiger moving through shallow waters, showcasing its grace and strength.
History
The current range of Sumatran tigers is limited to the remaining forests on the island of Sumatra, primarily in the national parks and protected areas such as Gunung Leuser National Park, Kerinci Seblat National Park, and Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park. Their historic range once covered much of the island before habitat loss and poaching.
