Reverse

The reverse design of the 1883 Morgan Silver Dollars features Morgan’s rendition of the heraldic eagle, with a front-facing eagle, wings spread, clutching the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace in its talons.

History

The New Orleans Mint resumed coining in 1879 after being closed for nearly two decades during the US Civil War and the Reconstruction Era. New Orleans would go on to issue Morgan Silver Dollars from 1879 to 1904, missing only the 1878 and 1921 date marks in the series.
