History

The obverse of American Gold Eagles showcases a historically significant design. The image of Lady Liberty, featured on the coin, was originally created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907 at the request of President Theodore Roosevelt for the $20 Double Eagle. Saint-Gaudens’ design is often considered one of the most beautiful depictions of Liberty in American history.
