History
The timeless design of the American Gold Eagle dates to the $20 Saint-Gaudens Gold Double Eagle, created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1907 under the commission of Theodore Roosevelt. Since its debut in 1986, this design has become synonymous with American pride. While the reverse field originally depicted a family of bald eagles until 2021, the new Jennie Norris design took over in the latter part of 2021.
