Reverse
On the reverse side of the 2024 American Gold Eagles, you’ll find the American bald eagle, beautifully captured in left-profile relief by Jennie Norris. This design was introduced in 2020, marking the 35th anniversary of the series in mid-2021.
History
American Gold Eagles made their debut in 1986, offering a variety of options for both investors and collectors. The BU Series introduced 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz gold coins. The Proof Series started with 1 oz gold in 1986, expanded to 1/2 oz gold in 1987, and then included 1/4 oz and 1/10 oz gold coins in 1988. In 2006, the US Mint introduced the Burnished Series, initially featuring fractional ounces. However, it discontinued these smaller options after a two-year hiatus in 2011.
