Obverse
King Charles III is showcased on the obverse of the 2024 Silver Niue Hawksbill Turtle Coins, portrayed in a left-profile relief by Jody Clark, without a crown.
Reverse
The reverse of the 2024 2 oz Silver $5 Hawksbill Turtle Coin features the striking hawksbill turtle. Hawksbill turtles are found in warm tropical oceans, primarily in coral reefs, mangroves, rocky areas, and shallow coastal waters. They have a wide distribution range and can be found in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans.
History
Throughout its history, the design of the New Hawksbill has evolved, with some changes being minor. The reverse consistently features the hawksbill turtle at its center. While the modern Niue Hawksbill showcases the word “TURTLE” on this side, the series was previously known as the Fiji Taku from 2010-2013, displaying the word “TAKU” on the reverse.
As for the obverse, the coin has featured three distinct designs. From 2010-2012, Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II was depicted, followed by the Fijian coat of arms in the 2013 Fiji Taku release. From 2014-2023, Her Majesty’s effigy returned, and in 2024, King Charles III made his debut.
