Obverse

The obverse of the 2003 Australian Silver Lunar Goat showcases a portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty is featured here in right-profile relief wearing the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara. This effigy of the Queen was created by Ian Rank-Broadley and served as the fourth-generation image of the Queen on coinage.

Reverse

On the reverse, the 2003 1 oz Silver Lunar Goat Coin features Sarah Anderson’s exquisite design of a nanny goat standing beside its young kid. The design follows the profile of Perth Mint designs for silver coins in this series by featuring two members of the representative species.

History

In Chinese culture, the Year of the Goat represents kindness, harmony, and gentleness. The Lunar New Year, also known as the Spring Festival, marks the beginning of the Year of the Goat. The date of the Lunar New Year varies each year, typically falling between late January and mid-February.
