The 2006 1/2 oz Australian Silver Lunar Dog Coin is packaged in an acrylic capsule. Although the Dog is the 11th animal in the Zodiac cycle, the Perth Mint’s delayed release of silver coins meant this coin is the eighth in the silver series.

Obverse

The obverse side of the 2006 Australian Silver Lunar Dog Coin features Queen Elizabeth II. This is the fourth-generation effigy of the Queen, designed by Ian Rank-Broadley in 1998. This portrait appeared on Royal Mint coins and was used by the Perth Mint from 1998 until 2018/2019.

On the reverse side, youll see a German shepherd. Originally bred for herding and guarding sheep in Germany, German Shepherds are now one of the most versatile and popular dog breeds. They are known for their roles in police work, search and rescue, assisting individuals with disabilities, and even appearing in movies and TV shows.
