After her death in September 2022, The Royal Mint transitioned to featuring King Charles III on the obverse. In 2023, this change was implemented, but not before the final batches of Britannias were struck with Queen Elizabeth IIs effigy. Importantly, the NGC has verified that these coins are among the last 500 in the 2023 Gold Britannia Series to feature Queen Elizabeth IIs effigy on the obverse. Queen Elizabeth II reigned from February 6, 1952, to September 8, 2022, making her the longest-reigning British monarch in history.
