Reverse

The reverse side of the 2023 1 oz Gold Britannia Coins shows Britannia. Philip Nathan designed this image in 1987, portraying Britannia standing along the British coast. She holds a trident in her right hand, an olive branch in her left, wears a Corinthian helmet, and has a Union Jack shield at her side.

History

In 2023, The Royal Mint transitioned the Britannia Series from images of Queen Elizabeth II to its first portraits of King Charles III. This was a notable event as it marked the first appearance of a monarch other than Elizabeth II on these coins.
