History

Minted from 1850 to 1907, the Liberty Gold Double Eagles experienced three different reverse design variations. The original design was used from 1850 to 1866, followed by the addition of the In God We Trust motto in 1866. Starting in 1877, the US Mint spelled out the word dollars on the coins. These coins were produced at five different US Mint locations: Carson City, Denver, New Orleans, Philadelphia, and San Francisco.
