Obverse

The obverse of the 2024 Morgan Dollar Coin features a left-profile bust of Lady Liberty. Designed by George T. Morgan, it shows Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, coronet crown, and laurel wreath, with a ring of 13 stars around the bust.

Reverse

The reverse of the 2024 Morgan Silver Dollar showcases the heraldic eagle of the United States, also designed by Morgan. This image depicts an American bald eagle with widespread wings, clutching the arrows of war and the olive branch of peace.

History

The Morgan Dollar succeeded the Seated Liberty Dollar as the second silver dollar design widely used in the United States. The first silver dollar, minted in 1804, was discontinued in 1806 due to hoarding. The Seated Liberty Dollar, minted from 1840 to 1873, was replaced by the Morgan Dollar. The final silver dollar series, the Peace Dollar, was issued from 1921 to 1928 and again in 1934 and 1935. Despite the Seated Liberty Dollar’s longer production span, the Morgan Dollar had a higher mintage over time.
